Khem-Aura was the Queen of the barn. Her presence was incredible. Her desire to be seen and to capture your complete attention was unreal. Never before have I seen a mare with so much charisma. Her dark color, the 4 white socks, black and awesome flaxen tail just put you in awe when you watched her float around the arena. This mare was poetry in motion, so fluid, smooth and graceful. She was purchase at the Lasma Yearling Sale. She was brought home to the farm in Florida where she was conditioned and shown in halter. Every time you walked into the barn she demanded your attention and would look at you with an expression on her face as only to say “don’t bother looking at those other horses. I am over here and they are of no consequence!” She enjoyed a good glass of red wine being that she was foaled in California and had quite the discerning taste too. A brief little story: When Mrs. Durdin went to visit Khem-Aura when she was back at Lasma to be bred to Aladdin, she took her a glass of wine from the party she was attending prior to the plane trip back home. She happened to be wearing a white linen suit that day and was packed for the plane. Well Khem-Aura decided that the wine did not meet the standards of her pallet and proceeded to spit the red wine all over Mrs. Durdin’s white linen suit. Because of how special this mare was, she did not get into the slightest bit of trouble. Her show career included:
Khem-Aura’s presence and personality is greatly missed at the barn. There has never been a horse who tried to please as much as she did in every aspect of her life!! | |||||||||||||||||||
