TrueLove

Anyone involved with horses will tell you that certain, special horses leave hoofprints on your heart when they leave this world and go on to greener pastures. For Magic Moment's owner, Granger Durdin, several of those wonderful horses have come and gone already. Here is a little bit about a few of her favorites, the ones that touched and blessed her life the most. Though we wish they were still here with us, we will always cherish the memories they leave with us and the lessons they so patiently taught.

Ukzmal

Sire:        Enoss

Dam:      Cesarzowa

Foaled:  5/29/1986

Gender: Stallion

Breed:    Pure Polish Arabian

Color:     Grey

Height:   15 Hands

This pure Polish stallion comes from classic bloodlines and has a power house pedigree. His sire, *Enoss, was bred by Janow Podlaski and was 1981 Polish National stallion.

Ukzmal is a hidden treasure we purchased from a Sannes Arabians in North Dakota. In addition to Ukzmal, we purchased three of his get: Katcha, Petula and Justajoi. These fabulously athletic mares are willing to work and are a pleasure to ride.

Petula has a solid show record in Sport Horse halter and performance horses. Petula is showing 2nd level Dressage and is working on 3rd level movements. In 2009 she produced a beautiful filly, American Thunder MM, by our leopard Appaloosa stallion Thunder Bay May.  This typey bay filly has a white blanket and the athleticism of both sire and dam.

Petula’s most recent accomplishments:

NTAHC Shootout, November 2011: First in ATR First and Second Level Dressage; Third in Arabian Sport Horse Under Saddle ATR

2011 Region 9 Sport Horse Championship Show: Reserve Champion in Arabian Sport Horse Show Hack, Open & ATR; Top 4 in Arabian Sport Horse Under Saddle, Open & ATR; Top 3 in ATR Second Level Dressage

Katcha, a 16-hand grey mare, is part of our program to breed typey, athletic performance horses.

In 2010 Ukzmal sired Catch the Butterfly MM, a bay filly out of Parvana, one of Magic Moments Stable’s most successful Sport Horse competitors.

Catch’s recent accomplishments:

Houston All Arabian Show, January 2011: Reserve Champion Arabian Sport Horse Mares In-Hand; 2nd place in the qualifying class

Houston All Arabian Sport Horse Show, January 2011: Champion Arabian Sport Horse Mares In-Hand; 1st in the qualifying class

Ukzmal is enrolled in the Sport Horse Nationals Pay Back program, which makes his offspring eligible to win prize money if they earn Champion/Reserve and/or Top Ten in a Payback class at the Arabian Sport Horse Nationals

Retired From Breeding, However we have some of his get.

DAJoshah

DA Joshah

The Durdin’s purchased DA Joshah as a 3 year old from Dolorosa Arabians. Two months after his purchase, with only three months of training under saddle, he earned a U.S National Top Ten in the Arabian Hunter Pleasure Snaffle Bit Futurity. After this stunning show ring debut, Joshah came home to Texas.

The following January Joshah sustained a serious injury to his front right leg and was stall-bound for over six weeks. He made a full recovery and with Granger in the saddle, went on to win numerous blue ribbons in Hunter Pleasure, AAOTR, Open and Junior Horse classes. Joshah had a couple of nicknames that fit him well. “Baby Shah” paid homage to his sunny, child-like disposition. He was also known as “Band-Aid Joey” because he seemed to always nick or scrape himself just before an important show.

Joshah’s great personality is much missed at the barn and in the show ring. He was a wonderful friend and partner we will remember forever.

DAMeltDown1
DA Melt Down

Granger purchased melt down from Dolorosa Arabian as a 3 year old. He was to be her next Country English horse. She showed him a couple of times in that class and "Melty" let her know that this was not his career of choice. So at the next horse show, Granger decided to just tack him as a Hunter Pleasure horse, braid him up, enter the class, and see what happened.

After that they showed in the Hunter Pleasure division for a couple of years and had a great time. Melty then decided that he was bored with Hunter Pleasure and that he would really like Dressage. He spent about six years of his show career as a Dressage horse, and really seemed to enjoy this type of work. He was schooling second level when he struck a career ending health issue.

Granger lost Melt Down when he suffered from an extreme case of founder. Melty was the big, bay gelding that Granger could go to when she was having a bad day, sit in his stall, and he somehow made everything better. He was a great listener and the perfect kisser! He would move her hair around on her head with his muzzle while seeming to say "life always gets better".

For many, it is a once in a lifetime experience to have such a close, personal relationship with a horse, just between the two of you. We know Melty is up with some of his other barn mates prancing around a Dressage arena with perfect footing; his favorite thing!

KFArtisticLady

KF Artistic Lady

“Lady” won numerous championships in Half-Arabian English Pleasure, Native Costume, and Show Hack. Even after her retirement from the show ring, she was a wonderful horse to ride and a favorite to take to Addicks Reservoir for a romp out in the open. Lady leaves behind one fabulous son, which we continue to enjoy at Magic Moments: Party Tyme MM.

Lady was definitely cut from a different cloth than most horses. It took a special relationship between Granger and Lady to have the success in the show ring that the two of them achieved. Lady loved to be flashy and fast in the show ring, at home, or even out on the trail. There was nothing better for an adrenalin rush than riding Lady. You never knew what to expect from her... But whatever she did, it was always fun!!

Khem-Aura

Khem-Aura was the queen of the barn! Her desire to be seen and to capture your complete attention was unreal, she had incredible charisma. The contrast of her dark color and four white socks gave her a beautiful and striking appearance. This mare was poetry in motion, with gorgeous, fluid, and graceful movements. She was purchase at the Lasma Yearling Sale and brought home to the farm in Florida where she was conditioned and shown in halter.

After managing to spill a glass of red wine on Mrs. Durdin’s white linen suit, it became a family joke that she enjoyed a good glass of red wine, being that she was foaled in California. Apparently the wine wasn’t up to her standards!

Her show career included:

  • Region IX Top Five and Reserve Champion wins in Hunter Pleasure
  • Scores in the 70’s in Dressage
  • In the Top five at Star World in Mare halter
  • In the Top Five at Scottsdale in Mare halter

Khem-aura won many other championships and was fantastic to ride outside the show ring as well. Khem-Aura foaled Raje Ala-Aura and Tsorcerers Aura, “RT”, who still lives with us at Magic Moments, and is a wonderful lesson and show horse. We are blessed to have a lot of wonderful horses currently in the barn, but none of them will ever take her place!

MysticsMagic1

Mystics Magic +//

Mystics Magic was retired in 2007 at the age of 25. She had a stellar show career, left behind two beautiful foals, Raje Tsorcerer and Magicsdestini MM, and many memories. Magic’s patience taught countless children to ride and gave them a safe introduction to the world of riding and horse handling. A sweet and loving horse, she was the perfect embodiment of what an Arabian should be—“a people horse”, always looking out for her rider. Magic is missed most keenly by the Durdin family, and will always be remembered for the many lives she touched.

Magic earned 385 achievement points in her life time. She earned the Legion of Excellence award, which is why she has been given the +// after her name.

SF Leo

S.F. Leo was purchased by the Durdin family for their daughter Granger to ride and show. He was 8 years old when he came to his new home in Florida. When he was first purchased he was one of those horses who loved his job! However, he did not want to have anything to do with people or his new little girl unless he was working. This was hard for Granger to understand because she had been raised around horses like Mystics Magic and Khem-Aura, who were both extremely affectionate.

Eventually the family decided to sell him because Granger had been given another horse to ride and show. Well, the fates decided this separation of the new team was not meant to be! A few years later Leo returned to the Durdin family after their move to Texas. Leo survived a major injury to his hind leg in a trailering accident and came all the way back to show soundness. The following year in 1995, Leo and Granger won a $10,000 college scholarship the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Later they went to the Region 9 Arabian horse show where he was High Point Arabian Gelding with a championship win, two reserve championships and two Top Five wins. Leo was shown in Country English Pleasure, Show Hack and Arabian Native Costume. That same year, Leo and Granger went to the U.S Nationals where they won three U.S. National Top Ten awards -- one in each division.Throughout Leo’s show career in Texas, Granger did her own training.

In the fall of 1995 Granger went to college in Virginia. After she left, Leo became depressed and wouldn't eat. Mrs. Durdin had to transport Leo to Virginia to reunite him with his team mate. Over the years of owning horses, there have been few that bond with their people like Leo finally did. To go from the horse who didn't like people, to being the horse that wouldn't eat without his person is quite a turnaround. Leo was 19 years old when he left this world on an Easter Sunday. He taught Granger numerous life lessons that will never be forgotten.
